The new PHEROCON SWD CANOPY for Spotted wing drosophila (SWD), Drosophila suzukii, in cherries, blueberries, strawberries, and caneberries

BACKGROUND

SWD has become one of the most destructive invasive insects in the U.S. nationally, affecting cherry and blueberry growers dramatically, along with the others named above. Growers have no chance to control SWD without insecticide sprays. Therefore, early detection of the first SWD adults IS CRITICAL to establishing the need for spraying as well as the timing for most cost-efficient results.

MONITORING

Trécé’s new PHEROCON SWD early detection trapping & monitoring system is proving to be a very cost-effective addition to the growers SWD detection and monitoring resources. The new SWD monitoring system features a multi-season, convenient PHEROCON SWD CANOPY, to which a red double-sided sticky card is easily attached along with a long lasting (L²^TM) peelable Controlled Release lure, which can also be conveniently attached under the canopy.

The new PHEROCON SWD CANOPY system (Patent Pending) feature adds to the protection of the trap and lure and significantly increases the accumulation and capture of SWD adults while limiting by-catch of other species. The mechanism is easy to use and maintain and offers a very convenient way for users to position the new PHEROCON SWD DUAL PANEL STKY^TM trap and high-performance lure.

The new PHEROCON SWD PEEL-PAK^TM Broad Spectrum multi-component L² kairomone lure (Patent Pending) features high capture performance with higher specificity for SWD and lower by-catch capture of non-targets. The L²lure lasts up to 6 weeks and has been shown in 3^rd party research to capture up to 2.5 weeks earlier than natural baits in areas where adults don’t over winter.

The new red PHEROCON SWD DUAL PANEL STKY trap with dual sided adhesive coating and EASY-OFF™ release liners have been comparatively tested with other adhesive coatings, “fine-tuned”, and proven very effective for capture of SWD adults. It’s easy to use, relatively adhesive friendly, and long lasting.
